How to view file metadata

  1. Choose one supported file.
  2. Let FileFruit detect its contents rather than trusting the extension.
  3. Run local metadata inspection.
  4. Review the structured results and privacy notes.

What FileFruit can inspect

Signature-aware inspectors parse supported headers and metadata structures locally, then label fields that may contain sensitive information.

Metadata-report limits

  • Only metadata understood by the bundled parsers is shown.
  • Absence from the report does not prove that a proprietary field is absent.
  • The viewer does not modify the file.

When to inspect a file

  • Check a photo for location metadata.
  • Review PDF page and document properties.
  • Identify a file whose extension may be misleading.

Privacy

This tool processes supported files in your browser. File contents are not uploaded by this dedicated workflow.

File metadata questions

Does viewing metadata remove it?

No. Use Remove Image Metadata for supported image cleanup.

Does an empty report prove that a file has no metadata?

No. The report covers fields understood by FileFruit's bundled parsers and cannot rule out unsupported proprietary data.
