What image compression changes
FileFruit decodes each supported image and re-encodes it with the chosen format and quality settings. It keeps the original available when a compressed output would be larger.
Compression tradeoffs
- Compression is lossy for JPG and WebP when quality is reduced.
- Animated images are processed as a still frame, not preserved as animations.
- Output size depends on image content, format, and browser encoder behavior.
When image compression helps
- Submit smaller images to upload forms.
- Prepare lighter product or portfolio photos.
- Reduce a batch while keeping per-file results.

Image compression questions
Can FileFruit guarantee an exact file size?
No. Encoding results vary with image content and format, so FileFruit reports the actual result instead of promising an exact size.
What if the compressed file is larger?
The result is flagged and the original remains available rather than being presented as an improvement.
