How it works

FileFruit decodes each supported image and re-encodes it with the chosen format and quality settings. It keeps the original available when a compressed output would be larger.

Important limitations

  • Compression is lossy for JPG and WebP when quality is reduced.
  • Animated images are processed as a still frame, not preserved as animations.
  • Output size depends on image content, format, and browser encoder behavior.

Useful for

  • Submit smaller images to upload forms.
  • Prepare lighter product or portfolio photos.
  • Reduce a batch while keeping per-file results.

Privacy

This tool processes supported files in your browser. File contents are not uploaded by this dedicated workflow.

FAQ

Can FileFruit guarantee an exact file size?

No. Encoding results vary with image content and format, so FileFruit reports the actual result instead of promising an exact size.

What if the compressed file is larger?

The result is flagged and the original remains available rather than being presented as an improvement.
