How it works
The JPEG is decoded and re-encoded as WebP in the browser. Quality controls the new WebP encode, not the quality already lost in the source.
Important limitations
- Conversion is not guaranteed to make every image smaller.
- A lossy source cannot regain detail during conversion.
- Some older software does not support WebP.
