What changes when WebP becomes JPG
FileFruit decodes the WebP image and writes a new JPEG using the selected quality. This is a re-encode rather than a lossless container change.
Compatibility and quality tradeoffs
- JPG cannot preserve transparency.
- Animated WebP input is handled as a still frame.
- Re-encoding can change fine detail and file size.
When to choose JPG over WebP
- Open WebP downloads in older software.
- Meet a JPG-only upload rule.
- Make JPEG copies of web assets.

WebP-to-JPG questions
Are animated WebP files preserved?
No. The current image pipeline processes a still frame and does not export animation.
