How FileFruit builds the GIF

The browser media engine decodes the selected segment at 12 frames per second, scales it to 720 pixels wide, and encodes a looping GIF without audio.

GIF format and preset limits

  • GIF has limited colors and no audio.
  • Long or high-resolution clips create large files and slow processing.
  • Unsupported source codecs cannot be decoded.

When a silent looping GIF works

  • Create a short product demonstration.
  • Add a motion example to documentation.
  • Share a silent looping clip.

Video-to-GIF questions

Will the GIF include sound?

No. The GIF format does not support audio.

Can I change the GIF frame rate or width?

Not in the current tool. It uses a fixed 12 fps, 720-pixel-wide preset to keep processing and file size more predictable.
