How it works

A lazily loaded AVIF decoder reads the source in a worker-compatible pipeline, then the pixels are encoded as JPEG.

Important limitations

  • JPG cannot preserve AVIF transparency or HDR data.
  • JPEG output is lossy.
  • Large AVIF images can require significant browser memory.
